A lovely piece of ash complete with 'black heart', a fungus infection in the living tree, that causes the dark staining visible in this piece. The disease weakens the structural strength of the tree but provides lovely contrasting markings in a timber that is known for its plain white colour.

This shallow dish would make a lovely centre piece for a sideboard or large table. Being hand finished with a natural wax polish it wouldn't be suitable for salad as the water would damage the finish.
