The turning of this piece of oak burr was an enjoyable challenge, it is thin, out of balance and felt as if it was going to fall apart at any minute during the turning. Whilst the finished item might not be called a bowl it is dished, does have a base and could be used to contain items. 

Why would you want to put anything on it and risk hiding the beautiful markings of this piece of turning ?

Look carefully and you can see the holes left by the oak bark beetle as it has passed through the wood, the sawn edge is where the burr has been cut from the log.

Hand finishing using a natural wax has given the piece a pleasant sheen.
